Home Again, Home Again!

I’m so glad to be home. We visiting with family during our Thanksgiving break and really enjoyed being with them. It’s good to be back in our own place, though. Unfortunately, we’ve been fighting a cold since before the break. First one daughter, then the other got it. Before we came home, John and I started feeling the beginnings of it. I feel pretty blechy today but I’m doing my best to get over it quickly. Taking my vitamins. Eating soup. Staying away from sugary things for the most part. I’ll probably make fresh honey lemon tea tonight.

Anyway, here are the last two works I submitted for daily art challenges in the fb group I belong to. I hope you enjoy them. Note: They are not available for purchase. Only the digital art piece is available for download and that, only for personal use. Please keep that in mind! Thanks!

This is the first one:

Misfortune themed art challenge submission (untitled as of yet) - digital art, using Sketchbook by Autodesk - This is my first doodle on the laptop. I have the app on my phone, too and have done a doodle there as well. Just trying to figure out the tools and the program to see how it all works. This artwork shows a lightning storm, a crashing wave, and a whirlpool (or a hurricane if you prefer). I really can't work the pen/pencil tools very well yet. I think I need a stylus to be able to use it to the best effect. Oh, well. To see more about this work, please click the photo to go to my deviantART page.

Yesterday’s Art Challenge: A Fresh Start

A photo-manipulation experiment in Gimp… Please click the photo for more information. You’ll be taken to my deviantART page where you can download a copy for personal use only or purchase a print. I don’t know if I mentioned it or not but you can purchase inexpensive photo prints, nicer art prints that cost a little more, or canvas prints which are a little more still. For those who may be concerned with the state of my coffee mug, I add cinnamon and ginger to my coffee in the mornings to help with my breathing and sinuses. It really does help!

"A Fresh Start" -photo by me - Y'all had to know coffee would be a major part of my fresh start. :)

Hearts of Gold Art Challenge

I have two artistic offerings for this challenge. I started the mixed media work yesterdayΒ  but it wasn’t complete in time for the challenge. So I also created a digital artwork in Gimp using the fractal tool. I much prefer the mixed media piece to the digital art. I’m just learning how to use the fractal tool, so I’m not even remotely proficient. As such, I guess I should feel better about the end result… Somehow, I just don’t, but I know I’ll improve in time. Which one do you prefer and why? If you feel so inclined, I find comments helpful and encouraging. Thanks in advance!

"Angel Hearts" - mixed media artwork in acrylic paints, fabrics and glass and plastic beads by Melody Kittles - For more info click the photo to go to my deviantART page. You can download a digital copy for personal use only, or purchase an art print if you like.

Light The Path

"Light The Path" - Acrylics on cardboard by Melody Kittles - The nifty light effect on the painting is not my mad artistic skills, but rather from the kitchen light. *shrugs* I'm honest. :) I did have fun painting this and it came very close to what I envisioned at the start. Today's art challenge was "a light in the dark" and this was my interpretation. I hope you like it. Please click the photo for more info or to purchase a print.

*The nifty light effect on the painting is not my mad artistic skills, nor was it a result of my fledgling skills in Gimp. Rather that beautiful glow came from the kitchen light, which is usually so unfriendly. *shrugs* I’m honest. πŸ™‚ I did have fun painting this and it came very close to what I envisioned at the start. Omnia Et Nihil

I did manage to get a better photo of my artwork from yesterday’s “Lost In Space” challenge. Yea! While the photo doesn’t show the entire artwork, it does show it as if it was all a “square” painting. I had to crop the photo to the sides of the foam board, but the tulle for the black hole spills over the edges. I am offering the photo as a free download (for personal use only) or if you prefer, you can purchase a print. I took the first photo in our kitchen with terrible lighting. I did upload it to my gallery on deviantART because I was so excited about the result and I did need to upload it to the art challenge group. The best photo was taken today, outside, in bright sunlight. I changed my phone settings and tried several different ones before settling on this photo for my final one. This is also my first successful HDR shot.

I settled on the title “Omnia Et Nihil” which is Latin for “Everything and Nothing”. I hope you enjoy the photos!

Today’s Art Challenge: Tiny Treasures

Today’s art challenge was “The Buried Treasure”. I started out with a different idea, once again, and it morphed into what you see here. Mixed media ~ I used acrylic paints and semi-precious stone chips which include at the very least, rose and clear quartz, several kinds of beautiful agates, tiger eye and snowflake obsidian. There are others but I don’t know all the names right off the top of my head. The stones should look really nice in certain lighting, as well as the gold, silver and copper metallics in the ‘dirt’. πŸ™‚ My inspiration? A mud pile Magiba was building under our carport. I’ll share a photo of that, too. Magiba is a great source of inspiration. She loves bright colors, rock collecting, small critters, and making mud pies. And she also loves painting. I hope she never loses her love of those things!

My submission for today's art challenge ~ "Tiny Treasures" ~ It is available to purchase as a print on my deviantART profile, which you can get to by clicking the photo.

This is the mud volcano Magiba has built under our carport. I sometimes wish I heard all her conversations while she's playing. She talks the entire time and it's always interesting, certainly never boring! Clicking this photo will also take you to "Tiny Treasures" on my deviantART page.

Another happy thing of note, we are now members of our new local art gallery. Yea! John is submitting 3 of his photos and I am submitting 3 of my mixed media art pieces (“Into the Inner Workings” and “Mated” – Mask series #s 7, 8a, and 8b). The girls will each have 2 pieces on display. Magiba created her paintings in acrylics and Starshine used watercolors.

Tomorrow, I’m going to be reblogging a few posts. I hope to spread them out through the day so they’re not overwhelming. I’ll be doing that on both this blog and my Muddled Mawkishness blog, which is where I blog about music and, from time to time, some personal things. I try to keep this blog more focused on things relating to my business. πŸ™‚

What’s Happening Today

No painting today…but I did snap a few photos you might enjoy. I snapped all these shots with my cell and used the Pixlr Express app for Android to edit most. Unedited photos will be noted in the caption.

Today's challenge was "Romantic Rendezvous" and this is what I came up with. I finally captured a photo of our male cat grooming our female. It's really sweet when they are taking care of each other. The photo isn't that 'epic' but it fit the challenge. And I did create something.

I took this photo and edited it, making the colors a bit more extreme. I bumped the contrast up and played with the hue and saturation a little. I'm happy with the result.

This is an unedited photo of yesterday's sunset taken before the clouds turned pink and purple. I used my cell to snap the shot.

This is today's sunset. I didn't do much on the edit as far as the color went. I cropped it a bit and added a frame. I thought it'd be a nifty perspective. I didn't mess with the color at all.

Our Second Son (he's sort of been grafted in to our family) sent me this self-portrait of his new hat. Another dear family member (Ms. Charlotte Cornez) crocheted the hat (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Raphael). I had fun with this edit and used more of the options Pixlr Express has to offer. I'm so loving this shot. Please keep Randy and his Lady Fair in your thoughts and prayers as he heads out to join the Navy and serve our country. We love you, Randybob!
